This class is for anyone who loves the world of interiors and would like to learn how to release their creative spirit on their home! This is not an interior design course but rather an introduction into how to go about creating an eclectic, colourful, quirky and individual scheme. It is about gaining confidence with using pattern and colour combinations; making great fabric choices and looking at how to arrange a room making best use of the space, the light and the orientation. Drawing from the rich history of colour and colour theory, architectural styles and the work of great designers, past and present, you will be taken on a brief journey to discover your inner creative interior designer. You will get hands on in this class creating your own room design; playing with fabric and paint samples and finally creating your own mood board to take home.
Your tutor is Jillian (Jill) Humphrey, qualified AMUSF (Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers), a graduate of Fine Art & Architectural History from Leeds University and a former Executive Leadership Coach and Trainer. As well as running Pretty Sitting Upholstery & Interiors Jill has a passion for collecting artworks and antiques and a very hands on approach to making unique and affordable interiors. “I like to reflect my personality and my interests in my own home and so in my commercial work I can’t help bring some of that energy and creativity into other people’s lives. Luckily, other people seem to like it too! I am also a life long student of art, architecture, design and furniture and I am so happy to share my knowledge and my passion with my students”.
This is an occasional 3 hour class from 2-5pm taking place on Saturdays at our Bath Street premises. If you can’t make this date then check out the website shop as we will be putting other dates in the diary regularly throughout the year. Each student will receive a goody bag to take home that includes a fabric covered notebook/sketchbook worth £18.50*; information and products from some of our suppliers and as many fabric samples as you can carry!! Student numbers are limited to 6 for each class as we sit around a big old table. Refreshments also included.
If you know someone who you think might absolutely love this class, we do sell gift vouchers which make great presents for that creative person in your life!
* Fabric covered notebooks/sketchbooks are a Pretty Sitting collaboration with KAPDAA, a social enterprise based in London supporting small communities of artisan workers in India who make the books from our own workshop fabric offcuts.
