THE PRETTY SITTING TEAM
who we are
Business owner and Managing Director, Jillian Humphrey is a fully qualified AMUSF upholsterer with over 10 years of commercial experience. She has also worked alongside successful commercial property developers to create a number of stylish and eclectic interiors using vintage, antique and bespoke hand made furniture and can bring her technical expertise and creative eye to both commercial and domestic settings.
Jill also runs our training courses in upholstery and soft furnishings sewing skills and mentors and coaches newly qualified upholsterers. All our classes and courses are suitable for beginners and improvers and are simply run for pleasure rather than accreditation.
Jill also designs and creates the quirky vintage furniture that we sell in our shop and will take on commissions for customers. If you have an idea of what you’d like Jill can source a frame and reupholster it in your chosen fabric. Please call us for details.
Molly Humphrey is our Sales Director and is our curtains, blinds and soft furnishings expert. Molly graduated from Falmouth University in Textile Design and has already had several years experience in the Interiors’ industry. Molly can help you in your choice of fabrics and finishes as well as measuring up for your bespoke curtains and blinds.
We have a small and dedicated team of skilled upholsterers, seamstresses and curtain/blind makers working in our workshop at Barrows House in Cheddar or from their home workspaces close by. We also have relationships with other great artisans, restorers and craft workers who assist us on our projects.
We are based at Barrows House, Tweentown in Cheddar, not far from Cheddar Gorge and and local shops. We have a showroom/shop on one corner of the building where we sell a range of beautiful fabrics from UK suppliers. It is also where we sell ethical homewares by brands such as Weaver Green, Nkuku, The Botanical Candle Company and our own hand made table linens and soft furnishings. We are also stockists of Earthborn clay paints and have a small range of oriental and antique rugs and upcycled and reupholstered vintage furniture.
Our workshop and training centre is at the side of Barrows house with a separate entrance. This is where we ask customers to bring items of furniture for appraisal.and where we do most of the work. We welcome visits or enquiries from customers and we are open to the public Monday to Thursday 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm at our furniture clinics. Please book an appointment.
